SEO and Internet Based Marketing

by joe cotroneo

Search Engine Optimization (or SEO for short) is a method of making a website easier to find via search engines. A lot of this has to do with the way that the content of a website is written. When properly optimized, a website, article or blog can be found easily by a web user searching for relevant words or phrases – without having to look through the literally millions of websites in the net for what they are trying to find.

This is only the most rudimentary explanation of search engine optimization; so what does this mean to you as a writer? This explanation should have given you an inkling of the importance of using the same words and phrases which people enter into search engines when they are looking for something. These search terms are known as keywords and key phrases in the search engine optimization business. BY using these search terms in your content, you make it a lot easier for people to find your content on the web. Let’s suppose for a moment that you need to write an article about fly fishing – naturally, you’ll want to use the phrase “fly fishing” in the article, as this is one of the most commonly searched for phrases which your target audience will be looking for.

When you use these terms throughout your writing, they are far more likely to be found by people searching for these phrases. Let’s say that you are writing an article about fly fishing. For the purposes of search engine optimization, it’s best to use the phrase “fly fishing” in the article, since this is likely to be the phrase which your target audience will be searching for. How many times should you use this phrase in your article? If you are writing this piece for someone else, then that is entirely up to your client’s preferences. You will see articles which are written with SEO in mind that might contain the keyword or key phrase only in the title and others which use the keyword as many as 25 times! It’s all up to the client’s specifications with regards to the placement of keywords in the article or articles.

Should you use a single keyword in this article or a group of keywords which are relevant to each other? This will again depend on what the client wants. You’re not the only one working with the client in many cases; your client may be subcontracting this work to you and have clients of their own who have criteria that they want met with the article. Freelance writers see a lot of this situation; for instance, a set of articles to be written for search engine optimization which come with a detailed set of instructions for how they are to be written. When there are instructions, you should try to follow them as closely as humanly possible.

Sometimes when writing articles for search engine optimization, you will encounter a situation when some extra clarification is needed. In these cases, you should get in touch immediately with the client to ask for any further information which you may need – this will prevent delays in delivery of the finished article and ensure that the article you write is one which meets the needs of the client.

Ezine Article Submission Really Works

by Molly Submin

Article submission sites are a great way to generate traffic to your website. By submitting your article to article submission sites you also increase the back links to your website. This is a great way to get more notice to your website by the search engines.

Anyone can do article marketing regardless of what field the person was in before. By writing topics that one is very familiar in, this could help boost the credibility of ones work.

Don’t use article spinning software. A lot of article marketers are using these software with their projects to augment the number of their articles. Although these tools can offer you abundant copies, they cannot in anyway guarantee their quality. So, be willing to hand write your articles or hire ghostwriters to do it for you.

Returning visitors are received with article marketing. Regular submission of articles becomes the source of information for others. That makes the visitors come to your site again and again.

The submission process is a breeze and some sites offer article stats. Like how many times the article has been downloaded, how many times it has been sent to friends, and how many articles you’ve submitted

Tell your readers what they can expect from reading your article. The best place to do so is the article title. Sell the benefits to entice them to read. Remember that you only have a few seconds to grab their attention.

To be successful in article marketing over the long term you need to submit original, interesting articles regularly to high traffic articles directories such as Top Rank articles. If you are consistent and diligent and follow the guidelines in this article, you will find that article marketing is a highly effective strategy for website promotion.

Once you have written an article, your next step is to publish it. You can do this by submitting manually to the individual article directories, which is very time consuming, or you can use an article submission service.

The best place to start in writing a good article is finding an interesting topic. This must be something relevant that a reader can relate to. Once a topic has been selected, it is time to write about it.

Your article should definitely target a pretty large number of readers. However, when you are writing your article, try to picture only one person whom you will address your article to. This makes your article more amiable, thereby keeping the attention and interest of your readers.

There are hundreds of article directories that let you freely publish your articles to their sites. You can search of these directories using your favorite search engine. Some directories are much better than others.

Using Subdomains, Pros and Cons

by Ricardo d Argence

Some businesses are concerned that if they use subdomains they won’t get the attention they deserve through the search engines, or that the site overall will not present the right look. Let’s check the facts on subdomains.

The definition of a subdomain is a secondary or substitute domain plateau. A regular domain looks as follows: www.domain.com. A sub domain looks like this http://subdomain.domain.com. The difference is that www is not at the front of subdomains.

Subdomains rank efficiently well. Search engine spiders and bots are not prejudiced when it comes to the ranking of subdomains and regular domains. As long as your site has the right SEO keywords and has been optimized, whether you have a subdomain or regular domain name doesn’t make a difference at all.

We will act like there are a lot of categories on your site. Should you make a submission to a search engine, you might submit every subdomain in its unique category yet obtain a nice ranking nonetheless.

When referenced by a search engine, a subdomain would show up with its own indicator and directory. One stategy is to create subfolders on subdomains so that search engines such as google will read the folder as a unique site.

People worry about their subdomain getting banned if the main domain name is banned. If the main domain is banned, it will have an effect on the subdomain. You see this happen often in adult content sites that have violated certain agreements that they have signed with a provider that does not want a domain used for adult material.

Using a subdomain is not wrong. It is perfectly ok to make each subdomain into its own division. If the answer is no, obtain a main domain name and keep that as your official landing page.

10 Top Guidelines for Video SEO – Video Search Optimization

by Mark Robertson

People usually love video, millions of Americans consume videos online and same is the case world over. A consumer is most likely to keep in mind and refer to a video in comparison to a print advertisement. These days video making is very economical as compared to the cost of a traditional commercial. Broadband is getting enormous popularity worldwide. Now people can watch videos without long download times or quality issues. Present generation considers video to be a reliable source of news and information. Online video for them is second to nature. Here are a few tips/hints for optimizing your video:

1) All SEO specialists know that the search engines are built to index and rank text. Being that it is more difficult for the search engines to understand the content within a video (though they are working on it), it is a good idea to include as much text surrounding the video itself if possible. One excellent way to do this is to include a text transcript of your video alongside your video with keyword rich title and descriptions.

2) Don’t forget to encode the keywords you are targeting into your video. Try to use the word “video” as much as possible, make sure the word “video” is used in your title, description, meta data etc.

3) Search engine crawlers rely a lot on the link texts to figure out what the video is all about as they are not capable to figure out the contents of the video otherwise. Therefore it is advisable to get as many back links as possible for your video.

4) It is advisable to create a separate sitemap just for your videos in your site and try to keep your video files in one directory this would help the web crawlers to locate your video files speedily and effortlessly.

5) If you are hosting the video on your own site, it is advisable to do your best to utilize a player that is not flash as search engines have difficulty understanding flash content. That being said, it will be difficult to empower video on your site without a simple flash player. If you can not get around it, do your best to take advantage of the other SEO techniques since search engines cant understand the flash technology.

6) Create search engine friendly keyword URLs for your video pages. To do this, you can use mod-rewrite function or htaccess file so that the URLs are freely assessable and readable by the search engines.

7) More than anything, I have learned that the thumbnail that you choose for your video is one of the most important factors in terms of the number of people that choose to view your video. With that in mind, try to experiment with various thumbnails until you have a good idea which images attract the most views from the audience that you are targeting.

8) If you are hosting videos on your own site, use the sitemap that we mentioned earlier and keep your videos all in the same directory folder so that search engines can more easily locate all the videos you are publishing.

Besides the tips mentioned above for Video SEO, there are a few other guidelines to keep in mind:

9) Keyword research, as with search engine optimization for other online content, is crucial for targeting the audience you desire most effectively. Use keyword research tools available in order to identify those words that most often are searched for when searching for related content online.

10) Enable ratings, reviews, comments, and feedback on your videos. Research shows that allowing users to provide feedback results in greater views for your video in addition to the fact that users who provide feedback tend to be those users that act.

SEO: The Lifeblood Of Your Business

by Rick london

Seeing our m.d. , we feel safer seeing that diploma on the wall. It doesn’t hurt to know some of his/or her living, breathing walking patience, many of whom have reached to ripe old ages. It simply makes us feel better than ol’ doc knows what he/she is doing.

When buying an auto, we do a little more than kick the tires. We test drive it, and often take it to our own mechanic to takes a better look at it.

But way too often, we hire an S.E.M. (Search Engine Manager), the person who does our SEO (Search Engine Optimization) simply because we saw an attractive website that maybe had some nice testimonials on it. Did you know that the majority of people who call themselves SEM’s read an E-book or two and figured they learned all they needed to know and are off to the races, charging hundreds and even thousands of dollars to tweak a few keywords or phrases and maybe get a few articles placed for you?

But did you ever stop to ask your SEM how many websites he has moved to rank number one on Google? Try it next time you intend to hire someone to facilitate your web marketing. What is his/her own Google Ranking. What does Alexa.com think about the site. Is it at least in the top one million? Most are not.

I accidentally became and SEM in my late forties. I don’t even pretend to know it all, or even bet the best, but I do know how it works. I started my cartoon website in 1997. It had no ranking with anyone, and Google didn’t even exist then. Yahoo wouldn’t even index it because I could not afford my own domain and had to have it sub-hosted. It was a very pretty site but a ?floating island?. Nobody could find us, and I hadn’t a clue how to fix that.

Browsing the Yellow pages I found Internet Marketing? and called the guy. Surely he would know what to do. Maybe I could afford to pay him even on my thin budget. He came out, looked at the computer, changed up a few keywords, and my web design, created some banners, charged me a few hundred dollars and left. This would be the ?shape of things to come?. I would run into many SEM’s (Search Engine Managers), who would take my money gladly.

So I enrolled in school at age 46 and learn business information management. I shopped around to see who had the very best classes (online) in this type of technology and found the best. I was surprised when they accepted me. I was later even given a scholarship. I was actually learning some new valuable skills, which made me very happy, but with mixed emotions of the dozens of so called search engine managers who took me to the cleaners. This won’t happy again, and I hope you feel the same if it has happened to you.

My cartoon web page has been the number one rated Google offbeat cartoon for the past three years. Before my education, it was not even ranked. It ranks in Alexa at about 800,000 and that number can be volatile. On Google, it continues to stay number one, thanks to various SEO techniques I use that keeps it there. Every single SEM I hired didn’t have a clue.

Next time you hire an Internet marketer, you might ask him/or her ?How many search engines have you marketed that has made it to the very top of Google?? Or even better yet, ?How many have you marketed that not only got to the top, but stayed there for awhile?? If they are honest with you, they will have to tell you not many if any. Ask them how their own site ranks. That too can be a ?deal-killer? question. Did you know that the majority of SEM’s have no college training and simply take information from outdated E-books written by so-called gurus, and hang out a shingle. Chances are, you may just know more than they do after a day of researching SEO or search engine optimization on the search engines.
